Mid 70's   Recently I stubbed onto a cahier (exercise-book) with descriptions and photographs etc. from an early - pre Abandoned - period. Even though I still have some artefacts from that time left around me, I 'm so used to them that I forgot how it all came about once.
With in mind that we're talking about the mid 70's, these exercises looked (still) less devaluated than I expected. They show the early signs of the direction Abandon did - and had to - go.

The examples presented here were made in the context of my study at the Rotterdam Academy of fine arts, in the period between 1975 and 1980.
.
Float / hover   Working with clay in a somewhat different fashion.

Plates   Exercises are important. One assignment from the Rotterdam Academy of fine arts was to 'situate a sculptural form in the open space'.

Stripe   Moving stripe - made from (almost black) audio tape and white leader tape.

The Pendulum   An iron ball - swinging infinitely...

Tension   'Tension by tense' - this was the assignment I received from my mentor at the Rotterdam Academy of fine arts.

Sense of touch   Just another assignment from the Rotterdam Academy of fine arts; literally 'a sense of touch', as a vehicle to work with materials (like clay) and to invoke a 'touching' impulse.

Sense of sensory   Installation with odour, sound, light effects, after 'a touching impulse' from spectators.

Umbilical fluffy   As an assignment from the Rotterdam Academy of fine arts I had to think of something personal to do with the subject of 'Body art' - one of the novelties in the art world at the time.

  Body colors - Umbilical colors
Body colors   Umbilical colors - taking the idea of Umbilical fluffy just a little bit further.

Video installation   RAI Amsterdam - first video installation 1976
My first - and last - stack of monitors...

Tent   Portable object, based on a frame tent.
